At 500 plus pages, what is surprising is not how long the book is, but rather, that Milford so seamlessly and with such seeming ease, manages to fit so much into so few pages. The name Edna St. Vincent Millay may not have much meaning to us today, but in her time, she captivated a nation that desperately needed an escape from a repressive society plagued by economic depression and global conflict.
