At Camp Green Lake, Stanley has to dig a hole each day - holes that will lead to his destiny. Louis Sachar is also the author of There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom . Holes is the 1999 recipient of the prestigious Newbery Medal, awarded to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. From the Publisher Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnats. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the warden makes the boys build character by spending all day, every day, digging holes: five feet wide and five feet deep. It doesnt take long for Stanley to realize theres more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment--and redemption. Holes by Louise Sacher Reviewer: Lauren from Calgary (laurenisdabest@hotmail.com) Date: 2/9/2003 12:58:13 AM Holes is an excellent book written by Louis Sacher. It's is very comical. Following the adventures of Stanley Yelnats is great fun for the whole family. For ages 9 - adult. 2. An Excellent book Reviewer: Tweedle-dee from Barrie, Ontario Date: 11/3/2001 7:28:51 PM This was a book that I could not put down. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. While reading this, I could not do anything else and it got my whole attention. I strongly recommend this book. 3. Holes Reviewer: Cassandra Bloom from Toronto, Ontario (mpovering@sympatico.ca) Date: 5/31/2001 4:42:28 PM A boy named Stanley Yelnats was sent to Camp Green Lake because of an accident. A pair of shoes dropped on his head and was accused of stealing them. It was either jail or Camp Green Lake. It's not one of those fun camps. In Camp Green Lake it's always work and digging holes five feet deep every day. 4. Holes by louis sachar Reviewer: Avior Dallal from 5518 alpine ave cote st luc montreal quebec (guestshit@hotmail.com) Date: 5/27/2001 10:09:55 PM Holes is a very enticing book this is my little summary about it Stanlay Yelnats's family has a history of bad luck, so he isn't too surprised when a draft of justice sends him to a boys' juvenile detention centre, Camp Green Lake. Everyday he has to dig a five foot wide, five foot deep hole. The Warden claims that it builds character, but that's a lie. Stanley tries to dig up the truth. Camp Green Lake is in the middle of the desert. The Warden says you can try running away any time but you'll end up coming back because you'll need water. Stanlayon the other hand proved her wrong by surviving it out there. This book is both serious and funny. You'll love this novel. I liked the way Louis Sachar lets out the fortune of each character so step by stepof format. You never really know what's going to happen next witch are i think one of the best kind of books out in this world. And he also is very good at bringing his great imagination and his realistic story together. 5. Holes Reviewer: Adam from Ottawa, Ontario Date: 5/17/2001 6:18:07 PM Jump into the adventure (not into the hole.) Stanley Yelnats has been locked away at Camp Green Lake for a crime he did'nt commit.
