While performing this task, Daine discovers that she can also bring back the dead. What will she do with this fantastic power From the Publisher Daine sails to Cathak as part of a peace treaty delegation from Tortall. There she is amazed by strange and wondrous sights, including rooms filled with dinosaur bones and the Emperor Mages zoo. But she also senses a darkness beneath all the gold and glitter, a darkness that lies in wait. At the same time, Daine is discovering that her own wild magic is growing again, this time giving her powers both great and terrifying. Emperor Mage is the third book in The Immortals series, which chronicles a time when the world is invaded by immortal creatures and a girl is born with a magical gift that could restore the very balance of nature. About the Author In the sixth grade, Tamora Pierce was encouraged by her father to start writing and she immediately got hooked. Once she discovered fantasy and science fiction, she tried to write the same kind of stories she read, only with teenaged girl heroines who were usually missing from the 1960s stories. Before her junior year at the University of Pennsylvania where she studied psychology, Pierce rediscovered writing when she wrote her first original short story since tenth grade. She sold her first story a year later and then enrolled in a fiction writing course during her senior year. When her teacher suggested that she tackle a novel, her childhood ideas came back to her and she began her first sword and sorcery novel. Pierce then worked as a housemother in an Idaho group home for teenaged girls, who loved hearing Alanna’s story from the in-progress quartet, Song of the Lioness. As Pierce continued to write and send out manuscripts, she moved to Manhattan to get her publishing career off the ground. Pierce still lives in Manhattan with her husband, writer/filmmaker Tim, and their three cats, two parakeets, plus a floating population of rescued wildlife. She enjoys her hectic life as a full-time writer and she hopes that her books leave her readers with the feeling that they can achieve anything if they want it badly enough. Tamora Pierce is a popular author of fantasy books for teenagers. In her latest quartet, Protector of the Small, readers follow heroine Kel as she rigorously trains for the knighthood. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Reviewer: Jen from Nepean/Ottawa/Ontario Date: 1/26/2003 9:18:37 PM This book was absolutely amazing! I seriously couldn't put it down. I started reading Tamora Pierce's books when my friend lent me the first book of the Circle of Magic series, and ever since then, I've been hooked. I think that this book is the best of her books, so far. I haven't read the fourth book in this series yet, but I can't wait until I can get my hands on it. Well, I hope everybody reads this book and that you all enjoy it as much as I did. 2. Amazing Reviewer: Rachel from Sussex New Brunswick Canada Date: 3/19/2001 8:02:39 PM When Daine and her friends, Numair, kitten, Duke Gareth, Alanna, and Gary start their journey to Carthak they are in for a surprise. The Emperor Mage and his nephew, prince Kaddar are in for a shock too. This book was so good I can almost promise that you won't be able to put it down. I think Tamora Pierce is an author that deserves more recognition. 3. Sugoi!!! Reviewer: jennieman from t.bay,ont. Date: 12/31/2000 9:04:52 PM THIS BOOK IS AWESOME, PEOPLE! Definitely a must read.
