About the Author In the sixth grade, Tamora Pierce was encouraged by her father to start writing and she immediately got hooked. Once she discovered fantasy and science fiction, she tried to write the same kind of stories she read, only with teenaged girl heroines who were usually missing from the 1960s stories. Before her junior year at the University of Pennsylvania where she studied psychology, Pierce rediscovered writing when she wrote her first original short story since tenth grade. She sold her first story a year later and then enrolled in a fiction writing course during her senior year. When her teacher suggested that she tackle a novel, her childhood ideas came back to her and she began her first sword and sorcery novel. Pierce then worked as a housemother in an Idaho group home for teenaged girls, who loved hearing Alanna’s story from the in-progress quartet, Song of the Lioness. As Pierce continued to write and send out manuscripts, she moved to Manhattan to get her publishing career off the ground. Pierce still lives in Manhattan with her husband, writer/filmmaker Tim, and their three cats, two parakeets, plus a floating population of rescued wildlife. She enjoys her hectic life as a full-time writer and she hopes that her books leave her readers with the feeling that they can achieve anything if they want it badly enough. Tamora Pierce is a popular author of fantasy books for teenagers. In her latest quartet, Protector of the Small, readers follow heroine Kel as she rigorously trains for the knighthood. But this book was deffintetly a disapointment. The adventure was great, and also the characters, but one part of the outcome, I think, was all wrong. Reviewer: Jillian from Calgary, Alberta Date: 3/24/2001 10:02:28 PM In the final book in the Immortals series, Daine and her teacher and friend, Numair Salmalin, are sucked into the Realms of the Gods by Daine's parents, Sarra, who was killed by bandits three years before, and Weiryn, the father Daine never knew. Daine is happy to see her mother again, who has become a goddess called the Green Lady, and she is pleased to finally meet her mysterious "Da". But because of yet another war in Tortall, they have to return to Earth. So they take on a dangerous journey to the dragons' home in hopes that the dragons will return them to Tortall, where Daine can finally defeat the evil former Carthaki emperor, turned into a Stormwing in the previous book. In this final book, Daine overcomes many dangers and finally discovers her love for Numair, and luckily for both of them the feeling is mutual. Pierce captivates readers in her final Immortals book, and I want to read her new series, Protector of the Small, to find out if Daine and Numair, minor characters in this series, really get married! This series and its predecessor, Song of the Lioness, are wonderful books. In the first book, When Daine sets of to the annual fair in a nearby city in search of a job she has no idea how much her life will change in the next three years. Although all of the books in the series are excellent the last one is the best. It is full of suspence and excitement. When I was reading it I laughed, cried, and sometimes did both at the same time. If you enjoyed any of Tamora Pierce's books you absolutely LOVE this book. P.S. It's worth reading this book. The ending is incredibly good. 5. Fantastic! So Numair and Daine end up in the Realms of the gods, but they have to leave to help with the big war in Tortall. So they must travel to Dragon land to ask them if one of them wil take them home.
